It’s never too late to learn piano

Some people think that learning a new skill or instrument as an adult is difficult. This belief often prevents people from diving into a hobby that would bring them joy and even improve their lives.

You don’t need to start learning piano as a child to become proficient at it. With the help of a piano teacher near you, and dedication to practice, you’ll be a great pianist before you know it.

The first place to start is setting a goal or selecting a piece of music you’d love to play. Keeping this goal in mind will help keep yourself motivated.

As an adult, you may even have more time to devote to learning. If you have just 15 minutes in your day to practice, it can make all the difference!

Consistency is key. Finding a practice routine that works for you each day helps playing the piano become a habit. It typically takes between 18 to 254 days to form a habit. Find what works for you and stick with it. Some people even find it helpful to begin learning with a friend or family member to keep both people accountable with practicing.

As an adult you also have the luxury of purchasing the right piano for your goals the first time. Many young students must start out with a beginner piano or inexpensive digital keyboard, rather than something that is going to have a longer life and better sound.

Beginning to learn a new instrument can be difficult on your own. Don’t be afraid to reach out to local piano teachers to find the right piano teacher for you. Whether it be a local studio, a teacher that hosts lessons in their home, or one that comes to you, find what feels most comfortable and works with your schedule. Many local piano teachers even offer virtual sessions.

Don’t compare yourself to others. While it’s wonderful to watch videos of professional piano players performing your favorite songs, it’s important to keep things in perspective. The person you’re watching has been practicing for years to get to where they are. Let it inspire, not discourage you.

But most importantly, start now! If you begin today, you’ll have more time to enjoy your new skill, and start enjoying all the benefits of playing the piano. You won’t regret it!
